Time is a Sword: Achieving True Efficiency in Self-Development

When we decide to improve ourselves, procrastination often creeps in, stealing the precious hours we have been granted. We must remind ourselves that this worldly life is fleeting. Soon, our eternal existence in the Hereafter will begin, making it essential to prepare wisely. In the grand scheme of things, life passes in the blink of an eye. Take a look at old photos—it feels as though high school graduation was just yesterday.

To use time wisely for personal growth, we must recognize that time is the most valuable commodity we possess. How we spend it determines our destiny in both worlds. There is a famous Arabic proverb: "Time is like a sword: if you do not cut it, it will cut you." We cannot afford to let moments slip away unused.

Defeating the Strategy of Distraction

Without clear goals and a concrete strategy for our lives, we risk falling into aimlessness. Wasting time chasing fleeting desires instead of focusing on what genuinely matters is a key tactic of Satan (Shaytan), who desires nothing more than to see humanity fail. In stark contrast, Allah Almighty wants us to succeed and win—both here and in the life to come.

Rather than wasting energy worrying about others or falling trap to superstitions, envy, and deceptive attempts to sabotage another person's success, we must turn our gaze inward. True growth requires honest introspection. What do we actually gain if we manage to hold someone else back, only to fail in our own journey?

Taking Responsibility for Our Destiny

Impacting others negatively and obstructing good works are the hallmarks of Satanic influence. Satan swore to lie in wait on every path to block the children of Adam from achieving true success.

We must refuse to play a part in those destructive patterns. Instead, take full responsibility for your time, your actions, and your spiritual and personal growth. By setting clear goals, mastering our daily routines, and seeking Allah’s guidance, we defeat the forces of distraction and secure true success in this life and the Hereafter.
